Head of Estimating – Data Centre & Major Projects

About the Role

Our client, a growing main contractor operating in the data centre and high-value project sectors, is seeking a Head of Estimating/Chief Estimator to lead their estimating division. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for a growing team and full oversight of estimating activity across MEP, CSA, and Preliminaries.
You’ll play a key role in the company’s strategic direction, engaging regularly with clients and internal stakeholders at the highest levels. With succession planning embedded in the company’s culture, this role offers a clear pathway to a more senior commercial leadership position in due course.


Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of estimators (currently six), supporting their development and performance
Oversee all estimating outputs across data centre and large-scale projects, including MEP, CSA and Prelims
Prepare and present cost estimates and bid proposals to internal stakeholders and clients
Manage full preconstruction procurement and tender adjudication processes
Engage with clients during mid and post-bid meetings, ensuring strong relationships and clear communication
Collaborate with other department heads on bid strategy and project alignment
Continuously review and improve estimating processes and systems to support commercial efficiency
Contribute to the company’s succession planning and strategic growth


What We’re Looking For

Minimum of 5 years' experience in estimating, ideally within data centre, industrial, pharma, or technology sectors
Strong leadership capability with experience managing a commercial or estimating team
Excellent technical understanding of construction estimating across multiple disciplines
Confident presenter with experience engaging clients and senior executives
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative leadership style
Proficiency in estimating software and cost management tools
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable
